Dog Food Basics - What's in it, Reading Labels, Interpreting Ingredients:

What Improper Nutrition Can Do:

Indications that Your Bullmastiff's Dog Food and/or Treats are Toxic - Read the Label:

  • BHA and BHT - associated with liver damage, fetal abnormalities, metabolic stress, and possibly cancer.
  • Ethoxyquin - believed to be associated with cancer, liver, kidney and thyroid dysfunctions, and reproductive failure.
  • Propylene Glycol -  associated with irregularities in the red blood cells, skin problems, hair loss, dull coat, diarrhea, overweight and even death.   This also exists in antifreeze, oil and waxes - which can kill a Bullmastiff he/she ingests it.
  • Sodium Nitrate - fatal to humans if ingested - is this something you would want your Bullmastiff to ingest?

Information for the above ingredient/preservatives were taken from Understanding Dog Food and Dog Food Labels (Part II).
